September 2022

Hi everyone

Hope you are well

Next meeting

Our next online catch-up is Wednesday 28 September 1.30pm. This will be a general catch-up including discussion about our 2023 ISA planning and activities - unless someone would like to present something (let us know)! Zoom link: https://charlesdarwinuni.zoom.us/j/89724536348

TASA 2022 Conference
TASA2022 Conference is 28 November - 2 December 2022, Melbourne. The first two days are workshops and meetings – main conference from evening 29th.
Although the full program will not be announced until early October, this is a reminder that Early Bird registration for the 2022 TASA conference closes on Thursday 29 September. The savings are considerable when taking advantage of the early bird rate.

Applied Sociology is hosting a panel discussion ‘Sociology for real-life institutional change: challenges and transformation’ and it would be wonderful to have your support and involvement if you are coming to the conference. This is 11am AEST on Wednesday 30 Nov.

This is an in-person event, although it is possible that some keynotes and sessions will be recorded for the TASA YouTube channel. Maybe we can meet up at lunch on one of the days? Let catherine.hastings@mq.edu.au know if you are attending!

XX ISA World Congress of Sociology
ISA2023 World congress is a meeting held only every four years. Next year it will take place in Melbourne 25 June – 1 July 2023. This is an amazing opportunity to meet sociologists from countries throughout the world and attend keynotes, panels, paper and poster presentations by thousands of researchers working across the full breadth of sociological inquiry.

Abstract submissions close soon – Friday 30 September. As sessions are organised by the research committees, working and thematic groups, abstracts need to be submitted to a specific session proposed by one of these groups. There are over 1000 sessions to choose from! Unfortunately, there is not (yet?) an applied sociology thematic group. But we encourage you to submit an abstract (or two) and profile your work to a national and international audience.

The congress is a hybrid event. Although meeting up in Melbourne would be brilliant, it is also possible to present and participate online.

TASA Funded ISA 2023 Bursaries

for Members

Several TASA Bursaries are available to support TASA members' attendance at the ISA 2023 World Congress. They are:

The application deadline for all bursaries is January 16th, 2023.

We are also planning an Applied Sociology side event to meet each other and international sociologists. We have submitted an application for funding to TASA and we shall hear the outcome of this shortly :)
