Join us on Thursday 24th August 2023 for this month's TASA Thursday Post Grad Webinar titled:
Breaking your research out of the academia bubble- How to get your research into the mainstream.
A discussion surrounding the challenges and benefits of disseminating research findings into mainstream media and to the wider public.
Research isn’t much use unless it gets to the people who need to use it. With the rise of digital media, knowing how to best disseminate research findings for greater public understanding is crucial. This is especially relevant for ECR’s when considering grant and funding applications and how they can best demonstrate the reach and impact of their research.
In particular, we would like to centre the discussion around the following (these are just some ideas, we welcome any suggestions around themes you would like to talk about):
- Examples of how you have disseminated your own research: where, how, the benefits you have noticed
- Challenges researchers might face in trying to publish through avenues other than academic journals
- Advice you would give to PhD candidates/ECR’s on first steps to breaking their research out of the academic bubble and into the “real world”

Belinda Lunnay
Torrens University
Belinda Lunnay is an ARC funded post doctoral researcher in public health at Torrens University, interested in women, social class, health decisions, risk, trust and qualitative methodologies.
Ellen Choo
Monash University
Hyein (Ellen) Cho is a lecturer at the School of Languages, Literatures, Cultures and Linguistics and a lead researcher at the Monash Gender and Family Violence Prevention Centre, both at Monash University. Her two main areas of research expertise are domestic and family violence and the Korean diaspora. Ellen is currently working on a monograph titled ‘Gender, migration and family violence in Australia: The transnational experiences of Korean diasporic women’. Ellen is also leading multiple research projects on gender and family violence that have been funded by different Australian and Korean institutions, such as the Victorian State Government, the Australian National University, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trades and the Academy of Korean Studies.
