As part of the TASA Postgraduates 2026 Sociology of What? series, this interactive online masterclass invites you to build confidence with sociological theory in a collaborative, hands-on environment.
Led by A/Prof Lucy Nicholas and Dr Rosie Clare Shorter, this session focuses on the sociology of gender and sexualities. Rather than a traditional seminar or webinar, this masterclass centres on participation. You’ll work in small groups to apply key theoretical perspectives to your own research, gaining fresh insights and learning directly from peers and facilitators.
This online masterclass responds directly to postgraduate students’ desire for more support and confidence in working with sociological theory. The idea is to create a space where theory becomes more approachable and useful, rather than something you’re expected to already “know.” It’s also an opportunity to connect with other postgraduates and see how people are thinking across different projects and topics. Come along ready to share ideas, try things out, and build confidence in how you use theory in your research!
