Join us on Thursday 12th August for the third installment of TASA's Social Theory Thematic Group Webinar Series, "After “globalization”: the rise of localism," which will be presented by Victor Roudomeof.
Based on the author's work, this presentation discusses recent claims that "globalization is over". These claims are predicated on different understandings of globalization. Depending on one's point of view, it is possible to view our era as one of "de-globalization" or "post-globalization", or to simply suggest that we live through a specific phase or stage of globalization. From the author's point of view, the present is characterized by the rise of localism across many different countries. Its rise is often interpreted as "national populism". The presentation analyses this phenomenon, arguing that sociologists should take the local seriously.

Victor Roudomeof
Victor N. Roudometof is a sociologist and cultural theorist whose internationally recognised work examines nationalism, collective memory, religion, globalisation and glocalisation. He is Director of the Historical and Literary Archives of Kavala, a Faculty Fellow at Yale University’s Center for Cultural Sociology, and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Tampere. His major books include Nationalism, Globalization and Orthodoxy, Collective Memory, National Identity and Ethnic Conflict, Globalization and Orthodox Christianity, and Glocalization: A Critical Introduction.
