Human health and wellbeing are inextricably linked to the health of the natural world. The existential risk posed by a changing climate to the natural world also represents an equal threat to human health and wellbeing.
The natural systems we live in and around shape our health, particularly in rural, regional and remote Australia, where communities can experience the impacts of climate change, environmental disruption and pressures on essential systems in distinct and interconnected ways.
Please join us for a lively exploration of the relationship between climate change, systems disruption and human health at this TASA Regional, Rural and Remote Thematic Group symposium, hosted at La Trobe University’s Albury/Wodonga Campus.
Researchers, students, practitioners, community members and anyone with an interest in rural health, climate change and regional futures are warmly invited to attend.

Call for Abstracts
We invite researchers to bring their ideas and showcase work exploring the concept of health for rural, regional and remote Australians in the face of a changing climate.
We welcome contributions examining the intersections between climate change, environmental conditions, systems disruption, community wellbeing and human health across rural, regional and remote contexts.
- Relevant topics may include, but are not limited to:
- climate change and rural health
- environmental change and community wellbeing
- health service access and disruption
- rural, regional and remote resilience
- climate-related disasters and recovery
- infrastructure and essential systems
- social determinants of rural health
- community adaptation and preparedness
- place, environment and wellbeing
- health inequalities in regional and remote communities
- interdisciplinary approaches to climate and health
Presentations will be 15 minutes in total, including questions and discussion.

This symposium is co-funded by The Australian Sociological Association (TASA) and La Trobe University, Wodonga Campus.
It is designed to create space for researchers and communities to exchange ideas, make connections and consider how research can contribute to healthier and more resilient rural futures in the context of a changing climate.
