THROWBACK TO OUR POSTGRAD DAY 2019
We hosted a virtual Postgrad Day back in 2021, which was a great success and enabled many of our members to reconnect! Here, we shine light on our last face-to-face event in 2019, where we had a whopping 82 attendees! We hosted a series of speakers covering various topics, including an address from TASA’s President, Associate Professor Dan Woodman, who warmly welcomed our Postgrad members.
Over the course of the day, we listened intently to a panel about Stories of Change in the postgrad journey and participated in the ever-popular mentoring session. Members of the Postgrad Sub-Committee, Anthony Smith and Claire Moran also ran a unique networking session that focussed on designing a new sociology unit. You can read about it in their article for Nexus titled ‘Imagining a different sociology?: reflections on a postgrad ice-breaker task’.
We also designed and delivered several engaging workshops that received consistently positive feedback. These were focused on: Getting Published; Abstract Writing; How to Navigate Conferences; Post PhD life; Grant Writing for Beginners; and The Supervisory Relationship.
