Bursaries
TASA’s 2023 ISA Bursary
seeks to support the attendance of higher degree research students (HDR) and early career researchers (ECR) from Category B and Category C countries in the Asia-Pacific Region (see list below) at the 2023 International Sociological Association (ISA) World Congress of Sociology in Melbourne, June 25 - July 1, 2023.
Category B countries: China; Fiji; Malaysia; Maldives; Marshall Is.; Peru; Russian Fed.; Thailand; Tonga; Turkey; Tuvalu.
Category C countries: Bangladesh; Cambodia; India; Indonesia; Kiribati; Korea, Dem. Rep; Lao PDR; Micronesia; Mongolia; Nepal; Pakistan; Papua New Guinea; Philippines; Samoa; Solomon Is.; Sri Lanka; Timor-Leste; Vanuatu; Vietnam.
Applicants for TASA’s 2023 ISA Travel Bursary need to be one of the following:
• Current HDR student enrolled in an honours, masters by research, or Doctoral/PhD degree.
• Current ECRs, having been awarded a doctorate within the previous five (5) years. This category includes applied sociologists.
There are five (5) TASA bursaries available. The successful applicants will receive AUD$1,000 to support their attendance at the 2023 ISA World Congress of Sociology. Note, thanks to the ISA, successful HDR student applicants from Category C countries will also receive a complimentary ISA 2023 Congress registration.
It should be noted that TASA is not in a position to organise or take responsibility for the bursary recipients’ travel plans or application for a visa to Australia.
Membership with TASA and / or ISA is NOT a requirement. However, applicants do need to be a member of their local sociological association.
Key dates:
Applications closed on January 16th, 2023 (AEDT).
Applicants will be notified of the outcome by February 13th, 2023.
All expenses need to be claimed by 1 August 2023 (i.e., no later than one month after the end of the 2023 ISA World Congress).
Eligibility:
Be an HDR student or ECR (see definitions above).
Have an accepted abstract for the 2023 ISA World Congress.
Reside and work in a country from the list of Category B and Category C countries in the Asia-Pacific Region
Each application must include:
Application form (see below).
Curriculum Vitae.
Confirmation of abstract acceptance for the 2023 ISA World Congress.
Application Evaluation:
Applications will be forwarded to a panel of members from TASA Executive and assessed against the following criteria:
Applications alignment with the purpose of bursary.
The demonstrated value of the proposed activity to the applicant’s career development.
Lack of access to other funding for attendance at the 2023 ISA World Congress of Sociology.
All eligibility criteria are met.
TASA has the right to reverse or vary any decision made if it finds that the decision has been made based on incomplete or incorrect information supplied by the applicant.
