The Distinguished Service to Australian Sociology Award is made to a TASA member who has demonstrated outstanding, significant and sustained service to Australian sociology over many years. While not necessarily a lifetime achievement award, candidates for the Distinguished Service Award would usually be nearing the end of their careers. Donations to this Award assist TASA in continuing to offer this opportunity to members.

The Outstanding Service to TASA Award is an honour accorded to a TASA member who has demonstrated an outstanding level of participation in and promotion of TASA over a number of years. There are many ways in which this can occur, but in all cases the quality of the service is the determining criterion, rather than the quantity alone. Donations to this Award assist TASA in continuing to offer this opportunity to members.

The TASA Best Paper Award for the Journal of Sociology (JoS) is a biennial process that uses academic peer review to select papers of outstanding quality published in JoS. Donations to this Award assist TASA in continuing to offer this opportunity.

The TASA Best Paper Award for Health Sociology Review (HSR) is a biennial process that uses academic peer review to reward papers of outstanding quality published in HSR. The prize is awarded to the paper judged by the panel to be the best of those published in the previous two years of Health Sociology Review.

The Stephen Crook Memorial Prize Fund was established to honour the memory of Professor Stephen Crook in recognition of his significant contribution to Australian sociology. The Prize is awarded biennially, at the TASA Conference, to the best authored monograph within the discipline of Sociology published in the previous two years. Donations to the Stephen Crook Memorial Prize assist TASA in continuing to offer this prize opportunity to members.

The Raewyn Connell Prize Fund is to honour the work of Professor Raewyn Connell in recognition of her outstanding contribution to Australian Sociology. In particular, it honours her contribution to sociological theory and research, and her support and encouragement of sociologists at the beginning of their careers. Donations to the Raewyn Connell Prize assist TASA in continuing to offer this prize opportunity to members.

This award, first offered in 2015, celebrates outstanding contributions to enhancing the pedagogy, practice or outcomes of teaching and learning sociology in Australia. It recognises contributions at the disciplinary level (rather than acknowledging excellence in teaching within the classroom or institutions). . Donations to this Award assist TASA in continuing to offer this opportunity to members.

The Sociology in Action Award recognizes contributions to the practice of sociology outside of academic settings. It is conferred on a TASA member who has made an outstanding contribution to sociological practice in Australia. Donations to this Award assist TASA in continuing to offer this opportunity to members.

The TASA Early Career Researcher – Best Paper Prize is an annual award for the best authored sociological paper nominated for this Prize. Nominations for the 2019 TASA Prize for the most distinguished peer-reviewed article published by an Early Career Researcher.

TASA’s Precarious Work Scholarship Fund (PWSF) was established in 2018 and is funded by TASA. The scholarships aim to support participation at TASA annual conferences by those academics or applied sociologists who find themselves in casual or fixed term work conditions. Precarious work is defined for these scholarships as non-standard employment characterized by sub-standard work benefits. This broad definition has been further clarified to include the criteria of holding casual positions or a fixed term contract of no more than six months.

The Jean Martin Award (JMA) is only a part of the legacy of the late Jean Martin. Anyone who was fortunate enough to know Jean, and those of her colleagues who were aware of her contribution to Australian sociology, would see this award as only a small reminder of the effect she had on other’s personal and professional lives. Donations to the JMA assist TASA in continuing to offer this Award opportunity to members.

The TASA Postgraduate Conference Scholarship Fund was established in 2003 with funds donated by the former Australian Association of Social Research Inc. (AASR). The scholarships aim to support postgraduate participation at TASA annual conferences. Donations to the Postgraduate Conference Scholarship assist TASA in continuing to offer this scholarship opportunity to members.

The TASA Conference Scholarship for Members with Disabilities is an acknowledgement that members with disabilities incur additional costs when attending TASA Conferences. The aim of the scholarship is to help defray these additional costs and promote participation by members with disabilities in TASA Conferences. Donations to the Conference Scholarship for TASA members with Disabilities assist TASA in continuing to offer this scholarship opportunity to members.

The TASA Conference Scholarship for Sociologists in Action seeks to encourage the participation of sociologists working outside academe (in areas such as private industry, government and non-government organizations, and private contract and consultancy work) with The Australian Sociological Association (TASA). Donations to the SIA assist TASA in continuing to offer this scholarship opportunity to members.
