The Impact of Opportunity: Reflections of a TASA 2024 Bursary Recipient by Habib Moghimi.

I am incredibly grateful to TASA for their financial support, which made it possible for me to attend the #TASA2024 conference and present my research, Politics of Othering and Censorship in Iranian Cinema: A Butlerian Analysis of Foreclosure. My work examines the complexities of censorship in Iranian cinema, exploring how visible and invisible forms of censorship shape representation and contribute to a broader politics of othering. The opportunity to share these ideas at the conference was immensely valuable.

Presenting my work allowed me to share my findings with an engaged audience, receive constructive feedback, and gain new perspectives that will help refine my research. The conference also provided a fantastic platform to reconnect with colleagues I have known for years and to meet and exchange ideas with many inspiring new colleagues for the first time.

Beyond my presentation, attending the diverse sessions expanded my understanding of current trends and debates in sociology. Engaging in these discussions and witnessing the wide array of innovative research being conducted across the field was both enlightening and motivating.

TASA's conference bursary was instrumental in making this experience possible. It alleviated the financial burden of attending the conference and affirmed the value of my work. Thank you, TASA, for supporting my participation and for fostering such a vibrant, collaborative community. I deeply appreciate the role TASA plays in advancing sociological research and supporting its members.
